Zoete Vlees (Tocino)

Date October 27, 2008

Note: I have posted this recipe in the past. This post has more to do with new photo of the meal that I’ve taken. I have been experimenting with food photography so you will see more meals from the archive.

Me: Wat wil je vanavond eten? (what do you want to eat tonight?)
Husband: Knoflook rijst (Garlic Rice)
Me: met wat daarbij? (with what?)
Husband: zoete vlees (sweet marinated pork or Tocino)
Me: komt voor elkaar (it’ll be done)

Sweet Pork

Short is how our conversation normally goes when he knows what he wants for dinner. And I don’t mind preparing it over and over as long as my husband likes it and requests for it. We call this sweet pork ‘Tocino’ in the Philippines (recipe here, sans cheese) and it is usually eaten with garlic rice. Normally,  rice is made with garlic and salt only. The rice that you see on the photo is with green peas, ham, onion, Chinese rice wine, butter, garlic- loads of it, light soy sauce, and pepper.

I wanted to eat it not the normal way, meaning rice and pork pieces on a plate but instead, I placed rice on a bowl, then tocino and topped it with fried Thai garlic.

Had my meal by using chopsticks. Not a bad idea afterall!

And may I just say - you don’t need practice at all in taking food pictures… I’m sure they all are as delicious tasting as they look in the photos.

Take care, God bless and happy eating!
