Thai Omelette

Date February 1, 2005

The mood to cook thai dishes struck me and I’d like to share with you in this post, Thai Omelette. Normally, the thais prepared this without bell pepper and carrot, I just added them since they were just lying in my ref.

Kai Jeeo Moo Sab ( thai omelette with pork)

2 persons

- 300 grams minced pork ( fat optional)
- 3-4 stalks fresh coriander including roots (roots finely chopped)
- 1 sliced red or white onion
- 2 cloves chopped garlic
- 50 grams cooked sweet peas
- 1 medium cubed red bell pepper
- 1 small finely cubed carrot
- 4-6 beaten eggs
- oil for frying.
- pepper
- sweet chilli sauce
- fish sauce

Heat oil in a pan, saute onion and garlic. Add pork until it turns lightly brown, add bell pepper and carrot. When pork is almost done, add chopped coriander roots and sweet peas, season with pepper and fish sauce. Add chopped coriander stalks/leaves before turning off the heat.

Beat 3 eggs and add a bit of fish sauce. In a heated pan with oil, pour in the egg mixture and swirl around the pan . Once it sets, place half (or less) of the filling in the center and fold in sides of the omelette to form a square..overlapping the sides a litle…or simply fold the omelette in half. Same procedure for the rest of the eggs.

Garnish with fresh coriander and serve with sweet chilli sauce.

    salut chère thess!

know what, I put coriander at almost anything I eat. It’s a real treat for me. Funny thing is I just learned to like it. I didn’t even know that we have that in the Philippines, just can’t remember the tagalog term.

So your thai omelette must be very good!

Bonne soirée à toi et à ton chèr mari,
    boks ^_^

    tama, wansoy nga! hehe!
may kinainan kaming isang resto sa malate na nag-se-serve ng wansoy salad. they mix it with salted eggs, kesong puti, onions, and tomatoes. sarap di ba?

anyway, this is a very healthy version of the usual plain pork omelet. bagay na bagay pang-bfast :)

there’s a simpler street food version of this omelette all over bangkok
i used to eat it almost every day, only 10 baht, satisfying as an entire lunch or dinner, and freshly prepared right before your eyes !

i watched how they do it. beat an egg in a bowl. add a bit of chopped shallots, fish sauce, tamarind paste (which is sadly very rare in manila), sugar (just a dash), lemon juice, then toss the mixture into very hot hot in a deep wok. there must be lots of oil (deep frying).

when egg mixtures floats and bloats in deep oil, scoop it out of the pan and let all excess oil drip. Better still, flatten it with the spatula.

Then top it on hot steamed rice. garnish with chopped coriander and serve with sweet chili sauce.

YUMMMMM!!!!!!! all for 10 baht! plastic spoon provided!

they also have the bangkok street food version of the above omelette but it’s 20 baht

instead of all the vegetables in the above recipe, they just fry the minced pork with lots of fresh basil leaves and sliced chillis. they use simple seasonings like light soy sauce and sugar

oh boy, i feel like flying to bangkok right now!!!!
