New Thai Restaurant in town!
April 22, 2008
I was so happy when I heard from my Vietnamese friend who owns a store in the city that a new Thai restaurant has opened in our little town! The dutch people are more into Indonesian and Chinese meals that are both adjusted to their taste that lots of these ‘affordable’ restaurants offer meals that aren’t really authentic but suiting the dutch taste, hence thick sauce (especially in Chinese restaurants) mild taste, nasi (fried rice) are the same tasting…in short, I really don’t like most of them. Thus whenever I hear about new restaurants I become excited.
So let me go back to this new Thai restaurant in town. Needless to say my husband (who’s Thai food crazy) and I immediately tested the restaurant by having lunch there. Baby step first , so to speak . If it wont pass our taste buds then a big disappointing dinner can be prohibited. We ordered each a plate of mix starter:
upon seeing the presentation, I got a good vibes..and then I taste them; springroll with vegetables, chicken satay and fish cake,s 2 pieces each. They’re nice, the Thai taste is there especially the satay.

with peanut sauce, sweet chili sauce and a mixture of vinegar-chili sauce with cucumber pieces…quite nice.

then came the cruncher, main plate of pad Thai. This is how I personally ‘grade’ a Thai restaurant, through their padthai. My verdict: presentation was so-so, the noodles were broken into too small pieces, no peanut bits, no extra sugar, no sweet vinegar with chili chops sauce available nor fish sauce with chili chops too..and I had to ask for a slice of lemon. I could see that the owner is quite careful not to spend extra on side garnishing..I understand that. But you know what? their pad thai was good! Without those extras it came out really good

and you’re right…we already came back there just 2 nights ago and had a huge..I mean HUGE dinner! We were fully concentrated on the food that I even refused to take photos of our meal *lol* which seldom happens.
We’re planning to eat there at least few times a month, that’s how happy we are ha ha! The only thing that was unfortunate is that this Thai restaurant was the same restaurant that used to be owned my the lone Filipino restaurant in the Netherlands. The whole restaurant was renovated and there’s not a single trace of the old one.
