Where's the Loco Moco?!

When I first read Kirk’s entry, I got curious of the Hawaiian Loco Moco plate he ordered. I thought the name Loco Moco sounded funny. I like funny sounding food :=) I’ve never had that before so I decided to google a recipe and I found this. I never knew it was that simple, so off I went to the grocery to buy me a kilo of lean ground beef and this was my own version of it. For people like my husband and I, who are dieting (and have never succeeded!) here’s

Loco Moco ala vida Thessa Loca

as I said above, we’re dieting again *goodness gracious* so I this I think is far from a really tasty loco moco…just to warn you.

What i used: 1 kilo lean ground beef, eggs, oil for frying, jasmine rice. I simply made patties of beef and grill them on the pan without oil but instead use its own fat to prevent it from sticking. Made sunny side up eggs, cooked 2 cups of jasmine rice, sliced some golden kiwis and strawberries for my plate. I didn’t want to use the beef’s fat so I instead, at the last minute since I wasn’t planning on using any gravy…I boiled 500ml of water, used half a beef cube bouillon mixed in the boiling water, a bit of water-starch, soya sauce and a generous tad of tobasco.

but for my loco husband’s plate, I made him a macaroni salad to go with his meal

I cooked some shell pasta, sliced finely some baby carrots, boiled chicken breast then shred them to pieces, cooked some potatoes then cubed them, few table spoons of mayonnaise, some pickle relish, added salt n pepper to taste…and there it was:

I hope my version isn’t offending to those who prepare the original meal.

Hi Thess – That is an absolutely hunger inducing egg! How in the world did you manage to make a loco moco (crazy booger…) look cute, I’ll never know.

hi Kirk! ha ha! lovely egg, isn’t it? :D Coming from a Loco Moco expert, that’s a wonderful compliment..thanks!

 Hi, Thess! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Kudos on that utterly delish-looking loco moco. I particularly liked the small strawberry-kiwi salad you served with it. (And don’t fret about the macaroni salad because it IS traditional. There’s a Hawaiian resto here in the Philippines that serves it the same way.)

    Melissa: Hola! muy gracias, chef!

MIDGE: Hello there! thanks for visiting as well

I must say that the fruit slices made it perfect for me (IMO) I always like to have them when I’m eating meat. Also you’re right, the mac salad is traditional as I’ve seen on kirk’s entry, that’s why I had to make it..besides my husband hates fruit
